OYO SCHOOL ABDUCTION: BASA COMMENDS GOVT RESPONSE, CALLS FOR STRONGER SECURITY MEASURES AND SAFE RETURN OF VICTIMS

Following her earlier condemnation of the unfortunate abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA) has reiterated her deep concern over the incident while commending the efforts already being made by the Oyo State Government and security agencies toward securing the safe release of the victims.

In a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Seye Akanmu, BASA acknowledged the swift response and commitment shown so far by the administration of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, in addressing the crisis. She, however, appealed for intensified efforts and more proactive security measures to ensure the immediate rescue of the innocent children and teachers still in captivity.

BASA emphasized that moments like this require unity, urgency, compassion, and practical leadership. She urged all relevant security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, intensify search-and-rescue operations, and deploy every lawful means necessary to bring the victims home safely and unharmed.

She further appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to continue exploring every responsible and strategic option available, including dialogue or negotiation where necessary, if it would guarantee the safe and immediate return of the abducted pupils and their teachers. According to BASA, the protection of innocent lives must remain the highest priority at this critical time.

While appreciating the efforts of the state government, BASA noted that the disturbing rise in insecurity across various parts of the country once again highlights the urgent need for State Police and more localized security structures capable of faster response, stronger intelligence coordination, and community-based crime prevention.

BASA reaffirmed her solidarity with the affected families, the schools involved, and the people of Oyo State during this painful period. She prayed for the safe return of all victims and assured citizens of her continued advocacy for improved security, safer schools, and stronger protection for all residents of the state.
