FG increases civil servants’ allowances

The Federal Government has approved sweeping increases in peculiar allowances and a suite of new welfare initiatives for civil servants.

The reforms, endorsed by the Federal Executive Council, aim to improve take-home pay, enhance morale, and strengthen productivity across the federal civil service.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, announced the package during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

She described the changes as part of a broader commitment by the administration to value the contributions of public servants and ensure their dignity both in service and in retirement.

The government has implemented an upward review of several critical allowances, with particular emphasis on those listed under the Public Service Rules.

These revisions apply to workers on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), covering all grade levels.

Peculiar Allowances: A comprehensive upward review across all cadres, delivering what officials termed a “meaningful increase” in earnings for both junior and senior officers.

Duty Tour Allowance (DTA): Now set at 100% for civil servants attending approved training programmes even when no travel is involved. Walson-Jack clarified: “Even if you are based in Abuja and attend training within Abuja, you are entitled to full DTA.”

Estacode and Book Allowance: Both have received upward reviews.

Other Allowances: Virtually all entitlements under the Public Service Rules including transport, uniform, and overtime where applicable have been revised.

These adjustments come without specific percentage figures released publicly at the briefing, with details expected to be communicated via official circulars to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
