PHOTO: Makinde Breaks Silence on Visit to ADC Leadership

••••Meeting Sparks Fresh Speculation Over ADC–PDP Democratic Alliance

In a significant development that may reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday led top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on a high-level courtesy visit to the residence of the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark.

The PDP delegation, made up of prominent national executives and influential figures within the party’s leadership bloc, was warmly received by Senator Mark in what political watchers have described as a strategic engagement among key opposition stakeholders.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the closed-door meeting, Governor Makinde said the visit was essentially to demonstrate solidarity with the ADC, especially against the backdrop of recent national events and growing public anxiety over the direction of the country.

According to the governor, the protests witnessed across parts of Nigeria earlier in the day reflect the deep frustrations of citizens over prevailing economic and governance realities.

“The visit is in solidarity with the ADC as a party,” Makinde stated. “Nigerians have witnessed the protests earlier today, and the only way to confront a failing system is by making our voices heard.”

Makinde further stressed that peaceful civic participation remains a legitimate democratic instrument through which citizens can demand accountability, responsive leadership, and better governance.

Political analysts believe the meeting may be more than a routine courtesy call, as it appears to signal intensifying consultations among opposition leaders ahead of major political realignments.

The development has already fueled speculation over a possible broader opposition coalition, as major political actors continue to explore common grounds in response to mounting public concerns over the economy, insecurity, and governance.

The visit further underscores what many see as a growing convergence of democratic forces, united by the need to amplify citizens’ voices and strengthen inter-party cooperation in the nation’s evolving political space.
