The University of Ibadan (UI) has emerged as Nigeria’s highest-ranked university in the July 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) taking second place nationally.
The ranking assessed 32,148 universities and higher-education institutions worldwide, according to the latest report on the ranking.
UI placed 1,291st globally, while UNILAG ranked 1,355th.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) followed in third position in Nigeria and 1,397th globally, while Covenant University ranked fourth nationally and 1,522nd worldwide.

Landmark University completed Nigeria’s top five, placing 1,659th globally.
Other Nigerian universities among the leading institutions included the University of Ilorin, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Port Harcourt and Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The July 2026 ranking evaluates institutions using indicators linked to their online visibility, openness and research excellence, making digital presence and access to scholarly resources important components of the assessment.
