Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has welcomed former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim to the All Progressives Congress.
He was presented to Tinubu by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who serves as the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum/
This development follows Anyim’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anyim, who also held the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under former President Goodluck Jonathan, made his switch to the APC last week.
Addressing the media after his meeting with Tinubu, Uzodimma expressed gratitude for the current administration’s support towards the South East region.
He highlighted the administration’s positive performance and its influence on political dynamics in the region.

Uzodimma noted, “The South East Governors Forum is very happy with the President and grateful for what he is doing for the people. Recently, an entire local government fell into the hands of the APC because of the performance of the present administration.”
Pius Anyim, speaking on his defection, emphasized his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s progress. He stated, “There is a need for all of us to put our hands together to move the country forward.”
The grand finale of the APC campaign for the Local Government Area elections in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, witnessed the formal defection of Anyim along with other notable political figures.
These included former Senator and PDP Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Sen. Obinna Ogba, and Chief Edward Nkwegu of the Labour Party.
Several former members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as former Local Government Area Chairmen, also joined the APC during this event.
