Oyo Govt. Announces Two Appointments After Chief of Staff’s Resignation

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appointed Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole as his new Chief of Staff, hours after Segun Ogunwuyi resigned from the position.
The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musbau Babatunde. The appointment takes immediate effect.

The statement also announced the appointment of Mrs Aderonke Adedayo as Director-General of the state’s Due Process Office, with immediate effect.

Akinwole, like his predecessor, is a native of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Ogunwuyi announced his resignation earlier on Monday, October 12, 2026, bringing his tenure in the governor’s office to an end amid the departure of several political appointees from the Makinde administration in recent weeks.

His exit has triggered speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, including suggestions that he could defect to the All Progressives Congress.
However, Ogunwuyi did not disclose any political disagreement or specific reason for his resignation in his letter to Makinde.
In the letter dated October 12, the former Chief of Staff said his resignation took immediate effect.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
Ogunwuyi thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in the administration as fulfilling.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he stated.
He also expressed pride in what he described as the administration’s collective efforts to promote the growth, development and prosperity of Oyo State.

“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State,” he added.
The former Chief of Staff concluded his letter by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reaffirming his commitment to Oyo State and Nigeria.
Before his appointment as Chief of Staff, Ogunwuyi served in the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, a source familiar with political developments in the state suggested that internal disagreements within the governor’s political camp could be linked to the recent developments.
“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections,” the source was quoted as saying.
The source also claimed there were indications Ogunwuyi might be considering joining the APC but stressed that no defection had been confirmed.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation comes against the backdrop of recent departures by political appointees in the Makinde administration, placing renewed attention on the state’s political landscape as the 2027 elections approach.
