Ministerial Nominee, Alake Contemplates Bolstering Social Media Regulations

Presidential nominee, Dele Alake, has expressed his willingness to endorse the reinforcement of social media regulations if appointed as Minister of Information and Culture by President Bola Tinubu. Alake, hailing from Ekiti State, is among the 28 ministerial nominees put forward by Tinubu for screening. Having previously served as Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Lagos State during Tinubu’s tenure as governor from 1999 to 2007, Alake is well-acquainted with the administration’s policies.

During his appearance before the legislative chamber on the third day of the screening process, Alake emphasized the significance of value reorientation from the family to the national level. He asserted his support for fostering a serious attitudinal change within society, particularly at the governmental level where he may be responsible for such changes.

To address these concerns, Alake advocated for the strengthening of social media regulations. He stressed that existing laws governing conduct in various aspects of human endeavor should be reinforced, especially in cases of libel, defamation, and other negative media practices. Alake pointed out that victims of such offenses often hesitate to apply the law against the culprits, necessitating a more robust approach to ensure compliance and accountability.
