Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as governor of Ekiti State after recording a resounding victory in the 2026 governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner after he polled 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challenger from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 40,543 votes.

Ekiti politics has long been known for its strong anti-incumbency culture, with previous governors either failing to win re-election or returning to office only after spending time out of power. Oyebanji’s victory therefore breaks a political jinx that had lasted nearly three decades.

The outcome also strengthens the APC’s grip on the state and marks one of the most dominant electoral performances recorded in Ekiti governorship history.
