BREAKING: Former Deputy Governor Dies at 69, Details Emerge

Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, a former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State and prominent traditional title holder, has died at the age of 69.

 

The death of the respected politician was announced on Saturday by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, a media aide to former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar. In a statement, Lukman expressed deep sorrow over Katagum’s passing, describing him as a dedicated public servant who devoted his life to the development of his community, Bauchi State and the nation at large.

“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, Wazirin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State,” the statement read. “The deceased passed away in the early hours of today after a life of dedicated service to his community, Bauchi State and the nation.” Lukman added that details of the funeral arrangements would be communicated later, while praying for Allah’s mercy and eternal rest for the deceased.

Katagum served as Deputy Governor of Bauchi State between 2018 and 2019 under the administration of former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar. Prior to his appointment as deputy governor, he held the position of Chief of Staff at the Bauchi State Government House. Beyond politics, Katagum was a highly respected traditional title holder and served as the Wazirin Katagum, a revered position within the Katagum Emirate. He was also the son of the late Alhaji Sule Katagum, an elder statesman who made history as the first chairman of Nigeria’s Federal Public Service Commission and likewise held the title of Wazirin Katagum

Family members, associates and political leaders have continued to mourn his passing, describing his death as a significant loss to the Katagum Emirate and Bauchi State.Politics Katagum is survived by his wife, children and other relatives.
