The Oyo State Government has intensified enforcement activities along the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road Corridor, arresting motorists found using the road before its official commissioning and removing illegal structures obstructing the project.
This was disclosed by the Executive Adviser and Director-General of the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA), Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi, during a briefing with journalists in Ibadan.
According to Adebiyi, the authority’s task force embarked on a monitoring and enforcement exercise along the corridor, leading to the arrest of several motorists who violated the government’s directive prohibiting the use of the road before its commissioning.
She revealed that illegal kiosks erected within the road setback were dismantled, while planks, pebbles, and other materials dumped inside lined drainage channels and converted into unauthorized access points for vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles were removed.
The OYNTCDA Director-General further disclosed that an overloaded commercial bus that broke down around Akamo Village was apprehended alongside several other vehicles for unauthorized use of the road ahead of its official opening and tolling.
According to her, all impounded vehicles and seized items have been transferred to the headquarters of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), pending the arraignment of the offenders for trial.
Adebiyi stressed that the enforcement exercise would continue as part of the government’s efforts to protect the ongoing infrastructure project and ensure strict compliance with established regulations.
She also urged residents and road users to obey government directives concerning the Circular Road Corridor and avoid activities capable of undermining the integrity of the project.
Recall that the Oyo State Government had earlier prohibited several activities along the Ibadan Circular Road Corridor as part of measures to safeguard the ongoing project until its official commissioning and opening to the public.
