2027: Presidential Candidate Promises N500,000 Minimum Wage, One Million Public Housing Units for Nigerians.

The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), , has unveiled sweeping plans to reform Nigeria’s labour and housing sectors, including the introduction of a N500,000 minimum wage for workers if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Sowore disclosed the proposals in a series of posts shared on his X account on Thursday, where he criticised what he described as exploitative labour practices, poor workers’ welfare, and housing policies that have deepened hardship across the country.
The former presidential candidate said his administration would abolish casualisation and contract staffing while prioritising job security, decent wages, healthcare, pensions, and humane working conditions for Nigerian workers.
“We are permanently discontinuing casualisation and exploitative contract staffing in Nigeria. Workers are not slaves, disposable tools, or modern-day serfs,” Sowore wrote.

According to him, insecurity and unemployment have been used for years to exploit workers, insisting that his government would restore dignity and power to labour.
“The era of using insecurity and unemployment to exploit Nigerian workers must come to an end. Under Sowore, labour will regain its dignity, and workers will regain their power,” he declared.

Sowore also pledged to implement a N500,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers, arguing that public servants, especially those in essential sectors, deserve better pay and welfare packages.
“A minimum wage of N500,000 is not too much for Nigerian workers,” he stated.
He added that police officers, soldiers, teachers, doctors, nurses, and other public servants should receive living wages as well as additional allowances for the risks and sacrifices associated with their duties.
On housing, the AAC flagbearer promised to revive mass public housing programmes with a new model that would eliminate discrimination between income classes.
“Under the Sowore administration, Nigeria will return fully to mass public housing — but this time, there will be no discriminatory low-income housing that segregates the poor and working class,” he said.
The activist said his proposed housing estates would feature modern infrastructure and social amenities, including schools, clinics, shopping centres, theatres, green areas, playgrounds, and transport access.
He also accused members of the political elite of diverting public resources for personal gain while millions of Nigerians remain homeless or unable to afford decent accommodation.
“For too long, corrupt elites have hijacked land and houses meant for the people, using stolen public funds to build mansions they don’t even live in. That era will end,” Sowore said.
The AAC candidate further revealed plans to build one million affordable public housing units across the country, describing the initiative as a new era of dignified and environmentally responsible housing for workers, families, students, and communities.

“Our goal is to build one million decent public homes across Nigeria — affordable, dignified, environmentally responsible, and built for workers, families, students, and communities,” he added.

Sowore’s latest promises come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with aspirants and political parties already unveiling policy directions aimed at winning public support.
