Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation support allowance for civil servants across the state, as part of measures to cushion the effects of rising economic hardship.

The governor made the announcement on Monday during the supervision of the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub, Oyo.

According to Makinde, the initiative will run for an initial period of three months, with effect from March, targeting workers in ministries, departments, and agencies across the state.
He explained that the intervention is a direct response to the increasing cost of transportation, which has significantly affected workers’ welfare and productivity.
“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. Transportation costs have gone up, and as a responsible government, we must act to ease the burden,” Makinde stated.
The governor added that the move aligns with his administration’s worker-friendly policies and the broader SAfER economic relief framework of the Oyo State Government.
The event also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries under the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP), alongside other targeted support programmes aimed at boosting economic activities and livelihoods.
Stakeholders at the event described the transport support initiative as timely, noting that it would provide immediate relief for workers battling inflationary pressures.
Details on the modalities for disbursement are expected to be communicated through appropriate government channels.
