The Olukere of Odo Oja Ikere, Oba Ayodele Obasoyin, on Monday harped on the need to domesticate Nigeria’s security apparatus to resolve the current security challenges.
The Olukere-in-Council advised the Federal Government that state police is needed now more than ever to strengthen the country’s security system and end the scourge of kidnappings, banditry and killings across the country.
The council, which spoke in Ikere Ekiti through a legal expert, Wole Adebola, at a press conference heralding activities for the weeklong first coronation anniversary of the Olukere, said eminent persons, including the wife of Ekiti State governor, Bisi Fayemi, and a former deputy governor, Bisi Omoyeni, would be honoured with chieftaincy titles.
Adebola stated that the anniversary was a celebration of the community’s success in October last year after decades of struggle for the Ekiti State Government’s recognition of the ancient Olukere stool and the developments which the community had witnessed in a year.

While saying security had been enhanced in Ikere Ekiti in the last year through the activities of the palace, the council regretted that “it is still a security lapse that state governors cannot control security.
“We call on the Federal Government to domesticate security. We want to suggest that state police should be created to strengthen security in the country.”
