The Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope A. Kolapo, has urged for collaboration among security operatives, traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, youth, and market stakeholders to sustain peace and order. This call was made during a Peace and Security Committee meeting in anticipation of the upcoming nationwide protest against economic hardships, set to begin on August 1, 2024. The Chairman emphasized the importance of peaceful protest while cautioning against infringing on citizens’ rights.
This statement was issued by the Local Government Information Office, Kafayat Olagunju, following an enlarged meeting of the Peace and Security Committee held on July 29, 2024, at the Council Headquarters in Akanran, Ibadan. The meeting underscored the need for caution during the protest to avoid exacerbating public suffering and disrupting lawful activities.
Dr. Kolapo acknowledged the significant contributions of all security stakeholders in fostering peaceful coexistence within the Local Government area. The stakeholders resolved to work together to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the protest.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including the Royal Fathers, Oba Kamorudeen Oniladuntan, Oba Yusuf Adebona Adegbenro Alajia of Ajia, and Oba Ololosunde of Olosunde were present, also the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Adedapo Atoyebi; Director of Administration, Mr. Olanrewaju Olatunbosun; Director of Finance, Mr. Adebunmi Adelowo; and representatives from various security agencies; such as, Nigerian Police Force, DSS, FRSC, Nigerian Immigration Service, Operation Burst, NSCDC, NOA, AMOTEKUN, VGN, PCRC, AGBEKOYA, and community organizations; such as, YOUTHS, CDC, NAPPS, AMIS, among others.
