Airport Upgrade Chairman, Dr. Ifeoluwa Akande, Hits Ground Running, Visits Communities Affected by Runoff Water
Dr. Ifeoluwa Akande, the newly appointed Chairman of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport Upgrade, has hit the ground running, commencing his assignment with an immediate visit to communities affected by runoff water from the airport project.
Dr. Akande, who resumed work on Saturday, August 8, 2026, visited the affected communities and assured residents that Governor Seyi Makinde remains deeply concerned about their welfare. He said the Governor had directed an immediate assessment of the situation to mitigate the negative impact of runoff water from the airport project on surrounding communities.
According to him, some houses in the area could have qualified for demolition under the project requirements, but Governor Makinde, in his wisdom and consideration for the people, chose to preserve the already clustered community while ensuring that the required setback is maintained.
The community leaders warmly received Dr. Akande and expressed appreciation to the Governor for his intervention. They, however, appealed to the state government for urgent action to address the erosion of their roads caused by runoff water and provide a lasting solution to the challenge.
Responding, Dr. Akande assured the residents that Governor Makinde would not abandon them, adding that their concerns would receive prompt attention. The visit ended with a brief but significant encounter between Dr. Akande and Governor Makinde at the airport.
