The Oyo State Security Network Agency – Amotekun Corps recently took a detour from the regular approach of tackling crime in the state. This new approach was informed by the idea muted by His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE to organised a 3 day training workshop with the Theme: “Crime Intelligence Gathering and Crime Analysis” for 270 Amotekun Operatives selected across the 33 local commands and State HQs.
The programme which was held at the State Headquarters Auditorium, Moniya, Ibadan between Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 August 2023 had in attendance, the special guest of honour, Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi.

It also featured a top tier expert in security and intelligence, Mr Solomon Oyebode and his team as well as Mrs Okuwobi Mutiat, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer, National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command and Barrister Abimbola Orogade of the United Nations Development Programme.
According to the State Commandant, Col Olayinka Olayanju (Rtd), in his opening remarks, the Training Workshop would dwell on Intelligence driven operations aimed at being preventive rather than being reactive in the conduct of operational activities. Thereby, nipping crimes in the bud before they are committed
He further explained that the initiative was the beginning of the fulfillment of promises made by His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, the Executive Governor of Oyo State to ensure that Oyo State remains a safe haven for social and economic growth.
Col Olayanju, thereafter, urged participants to take the workshop seriously as they will be responsible for passing on the knowledge gained to their colleagues who are holding forth the ground while they attend the workshop. He reiterated that these series of training could form yardstick for career elevation in the near future.

While, Mr Solomon Oyebode and his team dished out intensive course modules, interactive sessions and field works based on information gathering and processing for intelligence purposes, the NDLEA lead facilitator, Mrs Okwubi, engaged participants on the hydra-headed menace of drug abuse, its contribution to surging crime rates, destruction of lives, social indecency and the need for cooperation among security agencies to reduce the menace drastically, if not completely eradicated.
The NDLEA, lead facilitator, Mrs Okwubi during an interactive session, stressed on the need for intelligence as a vital tool towards making the right arrests said drug abuse should be of concern to everyone since it creates problem for not only the users but also the rest of the society.
Barrister Orogade, during the programme explained the importance of Dispute Resolution Tools as a major weapon for resolving conflicts.
The law expert explained that not all cases of conflict needs to be taken to the court of law when the Agency can serve as a good mediator to help parties resolve differences.
He further added that Dispute Resolution Tools is time and cost effective and while normal court proceedings may take months, Dispute Resolution Tools can help foster good relationship among parties in conflicts. Consequently, putting an end to numerous grievances from escalating into violent clashes or reprisal attacks.
Barrister Orogade therefore urged all operatives to be good ambassadors of the Agency so as to gain the confidence of the society. The need to be fair while mediating between parties in conflict were emphasised as a very crucial and essential ingredients for a peaceful and successful resolution of conflicts.
