Tinubu Makes Early 2027 Moves, Picks Nomination Forms, Considers Automatic Tickets for Key Lawmakers

Strong political signals are emerging ahead of the 2027 general elections as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears to be consolidating his political base on multiple fronts, with developments pointing to both his re-election ambition and strategic moves within the National Assembly.

In a major development, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Faleke, has officially picked up the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of President Tinubu, signaling the formal commencement of his 2027 re-election bid.

The APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, presented the forms to Faleke on Tuesday in Abuja. Faleke, who is also the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, reportedly paid N100 million for the forms, underscoring the seriousness of the President’s second-term ambition.

Alongside this development, strong indications have emerged that the President is considering automatic return tickets for a select group of federal lawmakers, particularly within the Senate. Although no official confirmation has been issued by the Presidency or the ruling APC, the development has gained traction within political and party circles.

Sources familiar with the discussions reveal that the proposal is aimed at rewarding lawmakers who have played key roles in maintaining stability within the National Assembly, strengthening executive-legislative relations, and supporting the passage of critical government policies.

The move was reportedly hinted at by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, during a meeting with political stakeholders, where he emphasized the importance of retaining experienced lawmakers to ensure continuity, efficiency, and institutional balance in governance.

Among those believed to be under consideration are prominent senators including Adamu Aliero, Abdulaziz Yari, Orji Uzor Kalu, Opeyemi Bamidele, Yahaya Abdullahi, Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar, Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Danjuma Goje, and Adetokunbo Abiru.

Insiders note that the selection is largely based on alignment with the administration’s policy direction and contributions to legislative cohesion. Retaining such lawmakers, it is argued, would support policy continuity and strengthen governance structures as the administration advances its reform agenda.

However, the reported plan has already sparked debate within the APC, particularly among aspirants preparing for National Assembly contests. Political analysts warn that if implemented, the move could reshape internal party dynamics by limiting competition in party primaries and influencing political alignments across several states.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable for the 2027 elections. Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.

INEC also disclosed that party primaries will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026, while campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026. Campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections are expected to begin on September 9, 2026.

With these unfolding developments, political stakeholders across the country are beginning to realign, as early strategies and power plays signal what could become a highly competitive and defining electoral cycle.
