State Governor Approves N1 Billion Teachers’ Fund, Orders Reinstatement Of Sacked Teachers


Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved a ₦1 billion Teachers’ Appreciation Fund for serving teachers across the state in recognition of their contributions to education.
Otti announced the gesture during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Umuahia, directing that the money be shared equally among all serving teachers.

The governor also ordered the payment of outstanding check-off dues within seven days, while directing that salaries owed to teachers affected by verification issues and the 4,075 newly recruited teachers be paid before the end of October.

On promotions, Otti directed ASUBEB to conclude the 2021 and 2022 promotion exercises and submit them for his approval before the end of October.

He further ordered the immediate reinstatement of any teacher below 65 who was disengaged, saying even teachers with just six months left before retirement should be recalled.
