Political Overtures May Reshape Oyo’s 2027 Governorship Race as APC Eyes Greater Grassroots Support
Fresh political calculations are unfolding in Oyo State following reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun making strategic overtures to members of the Oyo State Aspirants Forum (OYAF), a body made up of prominent grassroots politicians and mobilizers spread across the 33 local government areas of the state.
The forum comprises politicians who have aspired to various elective offices over the years and have remained active in grassroots mobilization. Many of its members are widely regarded as loyalists of Governor Seyi Makinde and are also associated with the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
Sources close to the development said the APC’s latest move forms part of its strategy to strengthen its political structure ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with the party seeking to build greater momentum for its governorship candidate, Barr. Sharafadeen Alli.
The outreach is believed to have been prompted by some political juggernauts over concerns that many members of the forum feel politically neglected despite the resources, time, and efforts they reportedly invested in supporting the Omituntun administration.
As political activities gather pace ahead of the next election cycle, analysts say any major shift in the allegiance of the forum could significantly influence the balance of power across the state.

As of the time of filing this report, however, the Oyo State Aspirants Forum (OYAF) had not issued any official statement confirming or denying the reported APC overtures.
It is believed that if the reported engagement eventually results in collaboration, it could provide a substantial boost to the APC’s electoral chances. Conversely, if the forum maintains its current political alignment, the anticipated impact may be limited.
