Protest Against Economic Hardship Wears New Look in Ibadan
Nationwide protests against hunger and the scarcity of essential commodities have begun in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Various groups and organizations dedicated to advocating for citizens’ welfare are leading the demonstrations. They have occupied several key locations in Ibadan, including the University of Ibadan, Iwo Road, Mokola Roundabout, and Dugbe.
One group has even marched through University of Ibadan, Bodija, and Secretariat Road, while another procession from Mokola Roundabout has passed through University College Hospital (UCH), Total Garden, and Agodi Gate.
Speaking on behalf of the group that started at the University of Ibadan, human rights activist, Abiodun Bamgboye urged residents to brace themselves for the full duration of the protest.

“This protest will last for ten days. We are aware that many Nigerians are struggling to survive and that most youths face severe economic challenges. Today’s actions are just a preliminary phase. We are assembling at the University of Ibadan and know that other groups are at Mokola Roundabout, Iwo Road, Challenge, and Dugbe. We will continue to march daily to raise awareness and press our demands,” Bamgboye stated.
