Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of Oyo State, with the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) continuing to play a pivotal role in the State’s security framework.
Speaking after his recent working visit to China through his official Newsletter dated October 31, 2025, Governor Makinde revealed that Oyo State is about to enter a new phase in its security strategy — one that combines Amotekun’s grassroots intelligence network with aerial surveillance technology to further strengthen protection across the State.
“Over the past few years, our State has remained relatively peaceful and stable despite having the largest landmass in the southern part of Nigeria. This did not happen by chance. It is the outcome of deliberate and sustained investment in keeping our people safe and our communities secure,” Governor Makinde said.
He recalled that when his administration launched Amotekun in Oyo State, the goal was to strengthen community policing and ensure residents could live and work in peace.
“When we launched the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun in Oyo State, our goal was simple: to strengthen community policing and ensure our people could sleep with both eyes closed,” the Governor stated.
Governor Makinde emphasized that the recruitment, training, and continuous equipping of Amotekun personnel have remained a cornerstone of Oyo State’s security operations, adding that the Corps has continued to demonstrate courage, professionalism, and deep commitment to public safety.
“Amotekun has become the face of community-based security in Oyo State. Their bravery and intelligence network have helped us deter crime and maintain peace in every local government area,” he noted.

To complement these ground operations, Governor Makinde disclosed that his administration will soon unveil an air wing to support surveillance and reconnaissance operations across the State, especially in forested and hard-to-reach areas.
“In the coming weeks, we will launch the air wing to provide surveillance over every inch of Oyo State landmass — especially over our forests, mining sites, and border areas,” he said.
He further revealed that the aircraft for Oyo State are being produced by CETC Wuhu Diamond Aircraft Manufacturing Company Limited in China, where he recently led discussions on maintenance support and pilot training. The aircraft are expected to arrive in Oyo State by mid-November 2025.
“By combining real-time aerial surveillance with intelligence gathered by Amotekun and our traditional institutions, we are building a fully integrated system that can detect, deter, and respond to threats before they escalate,” Governor Makinde added.
The Governor reaffirmed that the relative peace Oyo State enjoys today is a collective achievement sustained through collaboration between Amotekun, other security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
“Security remains the bedrock of development. With your continued trust and support, we will keep building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Oyo State,” Makinde concluded.
