Oyo 2027: Behind the Rumours—Adelabu Drops Bombshell on Tinubu, Olubadan

The race for the 2027 Oyo State governorship has taken a fresh twist as All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Chief Bayo Adelabu, has firmly debunked speculations of a hidden endorsement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
Speaking shortly after his return from Abuja on Thursday, Adelabu addressed party faithful and supporters in Ibadan, urging them to disregard what he described as “baseless rumours” making the rounds.
According to him, the Presidency remains neutral and has not anointed any candidate for the forthcoming governorship contest.

“President Tinubu has not endorsed any consensus candidate. The race is open to everyone,” Adelabu declared.
He stressed that as the leader of the nation, President Tinubu’s responsibility spans across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and over 700 local government areas, making it unlikely for him to show bias in a state contest.
Adelabu further revealed that the President advised APC stakeholders to embrace internal democracy.
“He told us to go back, meet as a party, consult widely and agree. If consensus fails, then we go for direct primary,” he said.

On the rumoured endorsement by the Olubadan, Adelabu was unequivocal:
“That is mere speculation. The Olubadan is a father to all, regardless of political affiliation. Kabiyesi cannot descend into partisan endorsement.”
Recall that Adelabu recently stepped down as Minister of Power to fully concentrate on his gubernatorial ambition.
Reaffirming his mission, the Ibadan-born politician said his aspiration is rooted in service and people-oriented governance.
“I am not in this race for personal gain. My goal is to serve the masses—youths, women, the vulnerable, and every indigene of Oyo State,” he stated.
As permutations continue to unfold within the APC, Adelabu’s latest remarks may have reset the conversation—leaving the 2027 race wide open and increasingly unpredictable.
