The race for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State has gained further traction as former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, officially declared his intention to contest under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adekanmbi, a technocrat with a strong background in financial management, said his decision to enter the race was driven by a desire to build on the developmental strides recorded under the current administration of Governor Seyi Makinde. He emphasized the need for prudent economic policies, transparency, and continuity in governance to sustain growth in the state.
In his declaration, the former finance commissioner called on party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots members of the PDP to rally behind his ambition, noting that unity within the party would be crucial to securing victory in the forthcoming election.

He further assured that his administration, if elected, would prioritize fiscal discipline, infrastructure development, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents across Oyo State.

Adekanmbi’s entry into the race adds a new dimension to the contest, as more aspirants are expected to emerge within the PDP in the coming months. Political analysts believe the party’s primary election will be highly competitive, given the caliber of individuals showing interest in succeeding Governor Makinde.

With early consultations and alignments already underway, the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State is gradually taking shape, setting the stage for what promises to be a defining political contest in the state’s recent history.
