NYC Oyo Condemns Ogbomoso School Invasion, Calls for Swift Rescue and Stronger Security Measures

The Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, Oyo State Chapter, has strongly condemned the violent attack on a secondary school in Esinle, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where suspected armed bandits abducted a school principal and several students and reportedly killed and injured teachers.

In a statement released by the Chapter’s Chairman, “Comrade Legacy” the Congress described the incident as a direct assault on education, youth development, and the future of Oyo State and the South-West region at large.

According to the report, the attack occurred during school hours when armed men stormed the premises, fired shots at staff, and forcefully took away the principal and a number of students. The assault has left the Ogbomoso community in shock, with parents and residents expressing growing fear over the deteriorating security situation in the area.

The NYC Oyo Chapter expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the deceased teachers. It also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured and the safe and immediate return of all abducted persons.

“We are heartbroken by this senseless act of violence against an institution meant to nurture and protect our children,” the statement read. “Teachers who died in the line of duty are heroes. Their sacrifice must not be in vain, and we demand justice for them and for every victim of this attack.”

The Congress urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, to intervene without delay to secure the release of the captives and restore calm to the affected community.

It further called on the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other relevant security agencies to intensify intelligence-driven operations, strengthen surveillance around schools, and ensure that the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice.

The NYC Oyo Chapter emphasized that schools must remain safe havens for learning, stressing that repeated attacks on educational institutions undermine national development and erode public confidence in the state’s ability to protect its citizens.

“This incident is another wake-up call. The safety of our schools, students, and educators must be treated as a national emergency. We need a more robust security framework, better intelligence sharing, and coordinated action to rid Oyo State and the entire South-West of criminal elements,” the Coordinator stated.

Reaffirming its mandate to defend the rights and welfare of young people, the Congress pledged to continue advocating for secure learning environments and the protection of communities across Oyo State.

“Our children cannot learn in fear. Oyo State deserves peace, and education must never be a casualty of insecurity,” the statement concluded.
