Lagosians Stranded, Trek As Public Transporters Embark On Strike

A large number of Lagosians were stranded on Monday morning as public transporters commence their 7-day strike in Lagos State.

Earlier, the transporters, under the aegis of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria announced that they will suspend all activities today.

The National Leader of JDWAN, Akintade Abiodun said the reason for embarking on the strike is the continuous extortion going on in their parks.

He also cited the failure of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola and the Motor Park Management Liaison Officer, Hakeem Odumosu (AIG rtd) to give a tangible solution as a major factor for the commencement of the strike.

Lagos Reporters reports that a large number of Lagosians were seen trekking to different destinations due to lack of transportation.

Our correspondent also discovered that okada riders in unrestricted areas have tripled their fare, making the few passengers pay through their noses.
