How to Report Loan Apps Harassment – FCCPC Guides Nigerians

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has provided guidelines for Nigerians to report harassment by online loan apps, as concerns grow over unethical lending practices in the country.

Digital lending platforms have become increasingly popular, offering quick financial relief to Nigerians. However, some loan apps have been accused of resorting to aggressive and illegal recovery methods. Borrowers who miss repayment deadlines have reported receiving defamatory messages, threats, and even the unauthorized sharing of their personal photos with contacts. These actions have caused severe emotional distress, public humiliation, and even job losses.

In response, the FCCPC has reaffirmed its commitment to consumer protection and is encouraging victims to report any harassment or abuse by loan apps. The Commission has taken steps to regulate digital lenders and has previously sanctioned several platforms found guilty of violating consumer rights.

How to Report Loan App Harassment:

Email: Send complaints to contact@fccpc.gov.ng, providing details of the harassment.

– Social Media : Message FCCPC directly on X (formerly Twitter) for assistance.

– Website: Visit fccpc.gov.ng, go to the “File a Complaint” section, and submit details such as:

– The loan app’s name

  – Contact details of the lender

  – Loan amount borrowed

  – Description of the harassment

The FCCPC has urged Nigerians to document evidence, such as screenshots of messages or emails, before filing a complaint. The Commission continues to monitor digital lending practices and warns loan apps against violating consumer rights.

As the Nigerian digital lending space grows, authorities are working to enforce ethical practices while ensuring consumers are protected from exploitative and abusive lenders.
