Fact-Check:Olubadan Opens ‘Calabash Containing MONEY’ During Rites
The calabash containing money opened by the Olubadan, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Ige Olakulehin during his traditional coronation rites signifies prosperity, rapid economic growth and peace for the people of Ibadan.
This was the finding of BCOS reporter, Dupe Fehintola who covered the coronation rites at the Oluwo Afobaje Labosinde compound at Oja’ ba in Ibadan.
An Olubadan-designate is required by tradition to open one out of three calabashes that would tell what the people should expect during the reign of the incoming monarch.
The traditional rites, preceding the crowning at the Osemeji shrine also requires the new paramount traditional ruler to prostrate before the people as a mark of service, stewardship and commitment, after which he would never prostrate before any mortal being again.
The coronation rites at the Oluwo Afobaje Labosinde compound, which also saw Oba Olakulehin being decorated with the traditional Akoko leaves (ewe akoko) was attended by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, the Eekarun Olubadan, Oba Adebayo Akande, former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Bayo Oyero and a former Minister of Trade, Chief Onikepo Akande.
