EXCLUSIVE: APM Chairmanship Primary Stalls in Ona-Ara as Aspirants Refer Final Decision to State Leadership

EXCLUSIVE: APM Chairmanship Primary Stalls in Ona-Ara as Aspirants Refer Final Decision to State Leadership

The process of producing the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming Oyo State Local Government Election, to be conducted by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), ended without a consensus on Sunday, as the party’s local leadership resolved to forward the matter to the state leadership for a final decision.

Egalitarian Voice, which monitored the primary process exclusively, gathered that party faithful, delegates, loyalists, supporters, friends, and well-wishers converged on Sunday, August 2, 2026, for the APM chairmanship primary aimed at producing the party’s candidate for the Ona-Ara Local Government Chairmanship election.

The exercise, however, failed to produce a consensus candidate after prolonged deliberations by party leaders led by Alfa Kehinde Adeyemo and other critical stakeholders.

A chairmanship aspirant, who spoke exclusively with Egalitarian Voice, disclosed that the four aspirants agreed that their names should be forwarded to the APM State leadership for a final decision.

“We are all qualified and competent to lead the council. Our leaders here could not arrive at a final decision due to certain factors. We have agreed that all four names should be sent to the state leadership, and whatever decision the state takes will be binding on everyone,” the aspirant said.

The four chairmanship aspirants are:

1. Windapo Oluwole Adebayo

2. Hon. Kolapo Temitope Abideen

3. Hon. Balogun Nurudeen Kolapo

4. Hon. Lamidi Surajudeen Ishola

As of the time of filing this report, no candidate had been declared winner of the primary, with all eyes now on the APM State leadership, which is expected to determine the party’s flag bearer for the Ona-Ara Local Government Chairmanship election ahead of the OYSIEC-conducted local government polls.
