A former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Blessing Fubara Snr., has formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and picked up the party’s governorship nomination forms ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.

Blessing Fubara, who is described as a development strategist, announced his resignation from the APC in Abuja before officially defecting to the NDC.
He was subsequently received into the party by the NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, alongside other senior party members.
Confirming the development, the Rivers State Chairman of the NDC, Success Jack, said Blessing Fubara had obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the governorship election in 2027.
The development comes shortly after his resignation from the APC, signaling what observers describe as an early realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle in Rivers State.
Blessing Fubara shares the same surname and local government origin with the incumbent Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as both are from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. However, party officials said they could not confirm whether the two are directly related.

Speaking on the matter, Success Jack said the party was aware of public speculation regarding a possible family connection but noted that he could not verify any relationship between the governorship aspirant and the incumbent governor.
