Analysts Set Agenda For Tinubu’s First 100 Days

AHEAD of May 29 inauguration that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, would officially assume office after his swearing-in.

Tinubu, upon his return from his one month trip, declared that he is prepared to hit the ground running upon assumption of office.

Already, the first task facing the President is the choice of cabinet members, with lobbyists all over the place seeking his attention.

There is no doubt that the quality of his cabinet and close aides would determine how far he would go in dealing with the myriads of challenges facing the country, ranging from insecurity, bad economy, unemployment, unstable inflation rates, among others.

Tinubu once claimed that Lagos State became the largest economy in Africa despite the lack of allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC.

“With zero allocation from FAAC, I turned Lagos State around and today, the state has become the largest economy in Africa,” Tinubu said.

As his inauguration date draws near, analysts identify key areas for the incoming government in the first 100 days.

During the electioneering period, Tinubu-Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council, had said that the President-elect’s first 100 days in office would usher in a new phase of hope that Nigerians have been dreaming of for years.

Tayo Oluwatuyi, the group’s Coordinator in Ondo State, said the incoming administration would bring Nigerians to a reality of new hope.

Also speaking on Tinubu’s 100 days in office, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro said the president-elect should build his economic team around competent people who would salvage Nigeria.

Isiguzoro also urged Buhari to tackle insecurity, and dialogue with Biafra agitators within his first 100 days in office.

He told DAILY POST: “Asiwaju is a progressive crusader who should centre the first 100 days to correct the ills that made Nigeria go into recession twice under Buhari’s administration.

“The economic team should be based on competence and strong character, not on sentiments or based on rewards for a successful campaign outing.

“Asiwaju should go straight for those who are technocrats who would ensure that the economy is revamped.

“He should bring in experienced and tested technocrats who can stir the economy of the country out of the mess we have found ourselves in. He should ensure that no part of the country is victimised because they did not give enough votes in the 2023 elections; he should start the healing process from the zones threatening to leave Nigeria, which is the Southeast.

“He should go to the root of why the people of the Southeast are clamouring for Biafra and ensure that the matter is resolved since Buhari could not do that.

“In the first 100 days, we want peace to be restored in the Southeast, and we want him to negotiate with Biafra agitators. Ohanaeze Ndigbo is ready to advise him properly on the best way to ensure we have a united country devoid of marginalisation.

“Tinubu should appease the people of the Southeast by ensuring that a Senate President emerged from the region under him.

“He should negotiate with agitators within the first few hours as president; and during his speech, he should grant a presidential pardon to Nnamdi Kanu as this will make the South-East his support base.

“We also expect him to ensure that economic leakages, like the removal of fuel subsidy, are achieved. We have heard him say he would remove the fuel subsidy. We want to see a political will from Asiwaju that those syphoning our collective wealth through the subsiding of fuel and other products come to an end.

“On the security of the country, he should ensure that he brings on board those who are ready to end the Boko Haram, bandits and insurgency in the Northeast and Northwest. He must bring on board a security team that is not lopsided but should show federal character.

“Being a tested democrat and progressive leader, Tinubu must know that there is hunger in the land which is caused by economic leakages, insecurity, nepotism, and appointing incompetent hands into his federal executive council.

“If Tinubu must succeed, he should adopt Fashola’s model, where he must commission at least one project during his first 100 days in office.”

On his part, the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, National President, Yerima Shettima, also urged Tinubu to restore peace in Nigeria, build an all-inclusive government, and infrastructural development.

He said: “We are all looking forward to May 29, when Tinubu will be sworn in without any hindrance.

“In the first 100 days, Tinubu should be aware of the fact that Nigeria is more divided than it was in the past, so we need a government that is all-inclusive to ensure stability, peace, and that citizens are treated equally, so that these agitations would subside and he would have a focus.

“The Tinubu I know is very progressive and someone who is a true Democrat. In the first 100 days, we should have stability and security. He should look at those competent and give them tasks to execute.
