Fresh details have emerged on the alleged coup plot involving military officers accused of planning to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu, with investigators claiming the suspects developed coded communication systems, proposed execution dates, troop deployment plans and post-takeover arrangements
The latest revelations are contained in confidential investigative documents reportedly spanning more than 7,400 pages, including suspects’ statements, bank records, handwritten notes, records of alleged conversations and other materials gathered during the investigation.
Investigators Detail Alleged Planning Process
Previous reports identified Nigerian Army Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji as a key figure in the alleged conspiracy alongside retired Colonel M.M. Adamu, Lieutenant-Colonel Shamsuddeen Bappah and Major Abdulkarim Ibrahim.
Military authorities have reportedly declared retired Colonel Adamu wanted, while investigators obtained separate statements from Ma’aji, Bappah and Ibrahim regarding the alleged operational plans.
According to the investigative documents, the suspects allegedly adopted coded language to conceal discussions about the proposed operation.
Investigators claimed members of the alleged group referred to themselves as “farmers,” while the wider operation was described as “farming.”

Other agricultural expressions were also reportedly assigned specific meanings.
According to the documents, “fertilisers” allegedly referred to logistics such as money, vehicles, weapons and other operational supplies, while “harvest” was used to describe the proposed day of execution.

The term “digital farming” allegedly referred to the planned operation, while clerics approached to offer prayers for its success were reportedly described as “technical partners.”
Investigators also claimed the expressions “D-Day” and “H-hour” were used to indicate the proposed date and time of the operation.

Proposed Dates Allegedly Discussed
The documents further suggested there were differing views among the suspects over when the alleged operation should be carried out.
Major Abdulkarim Ibrahim reportedly told investigators that the group considered launching the operation in the early hours of the morning but never reached a final decision.
According to the records, September 27, October 1 and October 4, 2025, were among the dates allegedly discussed, with Nigeria’s Independence Day featuring prominently in the deliberations.
Another suspect, Major Ilyasu Jamilu, also reportedly confirmed that September 27, October 1 and another later date were considered, but said no final decision was reached because preparations had not been completed.
Ibrahim further told investigators that the timing depended largely on the availability of troops, equipment and other operational resources.
“Col. Ma’aji mentioned that the availability of troops and equipment would determine which of the dates would be D-Day,” he reportedly stated.
Troops, Equipment Allegedly Key to Plan
The investigative documents indicated that securing personnel, weapons, vehicles and other logistics was central to the alleged plot.
Investigators also claimed the records detailed how specific responsibilities were assigned to individual participants and how strategic locations were identified for the proposed operation.
The documents further suggested that discussions extended beyond the planned takeover itself to include arrangements for a transition government if the operation had succeeded.
According to investigators, some of the coded expressions allegedly used by the suspects included:
