•••• Races to meet July 7 deadline

THE National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed the smooth uploading of the names of its candidates for the 2027 polls to the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It came days after the party received the access codes to the portal from INEC on Monday.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered in Abuja indicated that so far far, no serious hitches had been encountered in the exercise.
The first phase is the uploading of the names of candidates for the National Assembly and Presidential elections, according to the timeline, political parties have up to July 7 to conclude the phase.

The PDP, which is fielding a former senator, Sandy Ojang Onor, as its presidential candidate, is also contesting senatorial and House of Representatives seats across the federation.
Candidates are also being fielded for the governorship seats in the states and the Houses of Assembly.
The National Publicity Secretary, Honourable Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, on Thursday confirmed that the exercise “has been going on smoothly.”
He said, “As you are aware, we have received the codes and we have commenced the uploading since Monday.
“We have not encountered any challenges. Everything is going on smoothly.

“As you know, it’s in phases; governorship and State House Assembly have a different date for final submission, while that of the National Assembly and the Presidential will be closed by 7th July.”
Mohammed stated that what the NWC would do would be to speed up to ensure that it met the deadline of July 7.
“50, we are working towards the deadline. It is not an easy task, but we are trying to meet up for the National Assembly and the Presidential, which is closing by the 7th”, he added.
