Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA) has been officially named Spokesperson for the 2026 National Democracy Day Conference and MKO Abiola Heroes of Democracy Award, a landmark national event scheduled to hold in Abuja, by the NigeriaFIRST™ Foundation.

In the same vein, the respected political leader and grassroots mobiliser has also been saddled with the strategic responsibility of serving as Chairperson, Special Fundraising Sub-Committee, a role considered pivotal to the success of the historic national gathering.
The prestigious appointment is a clear testament to BASA’s demonstrated leadership capacity, enduring public service credentials, and unwavering dedication to democratic values and nation-building.
Announcing the appointment, the NigeriaFIRST™ Foundation described BASA as a leader whose influence, credibility, and reach make her eminently qualified for the assignment.
“Her appointment brings to this national responsibility a rare blend of tested capacity, expansive continental networks, and unquestionable credibility,” the Foundation stated.
The organisation further extolled her symbolic alignment with the spirit of June 12, noting that:
“Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu represents the living essence of June 12 — where sacrifice evolves into service, and service is elevated into enduring statecraft.”
This glowing endorsement, according to the Foundation, informed the unanimous decision to entrust BASA with the responsibility of projecting the ideals of June 12 while also mobilising the necessary institutional and financial support required to make the conference a historic success.
The NigeriaFIRST™ Foundation, under the distinguished leadership of its Board Chairman, Sir Dr. Mike Okiro, CFR, NPM, mni, KSS, former Inspector General of Police, and with the royal blessing of its Eminent Grand Patron, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, CFR, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, unanimously ratified BASA’s appointment for the national role.

Their collective confidence, observers note, reflects BASA’s growing stature as a visionary leader who effectively blends intellect with compassion, enterprise with ethics, and grassroots legitimacy with a broad global outlook.
Reacting to the development, Hon. BASA expressed profound appreciation to the NigeriaFIRST™ Foundation for finding her worthy of the assignment.
She pledged to discharge the responsibility with utmost integrity and dedication, assuring that the ideals and voice of June 12 democracy would not only be amplified but sustainably institutionalised.

BASA further stressed that the democratic covenant of June 12 must transcend ceremonial rhetoric and evolve into actionable governance frameworks.
“The covenant of June 12 must move from communiqués to constitutional clauses, from declarations to enforceable decrees,” she affirmed, while promising to carry the same democratic ideals into her legislative aspiration for Oyo South Senatorial District in 2027, by the grace of God and the will of the people.
This appointment goes far beyond ceremony. It is a consequential national call to service, perfectly aligned with BASA’s enduring philosophy that true leadership is sacrifice, and sacrifice must always translate into service.
