A group of concerned citizens in Ibadan North East Local Government, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly condemned the recent move by Hon. Sola Owolabi following his submission of a letter of expression of interest to contest again for the Ibadan North East Constituency 2 seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

In a statement made available to journalists, the group described the move as “unacceptable and against the spirit of fairness and democratic rotation,” stressing that the constituency seat is not the exclusive preserve of any individual but a collective mandate that should give room for broader representation.
The group challenged Hon. Sola Owolabi to publicly present his stewardship and account of performance to the people, as demonstrated by his colleague, Hon. Abiodun Babalola, who rendered a detailed report of his legislative activities to constituents in the previous year.
According to the concerned citizens, accountability and transparency remain the cornerstone of good governance, and any aspirant seeking re-election must be willing to subject their record to public scrutiny.

Furthermore, the group called on the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to intervene decisively by discouraging any attempt at a third-term bid by Hon. Owolabi. They emphasized that allowing such a move could set a dangerous precedent and undermine internal democracy within the party.
They also appealed to party stakeholders, executives, and faithful members of the PDP across Ibadan North East Local Government to resist and reject any effort aimed at imposing a third-term ambition, noting that inclusiveness and equal opportunity must be upheld within the party structure.

“The Ibadan North East Constituency 2 seat belongs to the people, not to a single individual. It is a mandate that must reflect equity, justice, and fair representation,” the statement concluded.
The development is expected to heighten political activities within the constituency as stakeholders continue to weigh in on the growing debate over representation, accountability, and party discipline ahead of the next electoral cycle.
