The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country following rising security threats in several states.

The directive was issued by the Minister of Education through a circular dated December 21, 2025, and signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir. The circular, addressed to all principals of Federal Unity Colleges, cited recent security challenges and the need to prevent potential breaches as the rationale for the sudden shutdown.

According to the Ministry, the affected schools are to close with immediate effect, and principals have been instructed to ensure full compliance with the order.
The Ministry, however, did not disclose the specific nature of the security threats but noted that the precautionary measure was necessary to safeguard students and staff nationwide.
