OYNTCDA Showcases Panoramic View of Ibadan’s Brown Roof Skyline — A Symbol of Culture Evolving into Modern Tourism Appeal

The panoramic view of Ibadan’s famous brown roofs remains one of the city’s most captivating sights — a timeless symbol of cultural identity and history now transforming into a modern tourism attraction.

Speaking against this breathtaking backdrop, the Executive Adviser and Director-General of the Oyo New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA), Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi, reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation in its efforts to develop Ibadan and other emerging cities across the state.

Mrs. Adebiyi made these remarks during the World Cities Day celebration held recently in Ibadan, organised by the Oyo New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA).

According to her, Ibadan’s iconic “Brown Roof City,” stretching across the valleys and ridges of its ancient landscape, is not just a relic of the past but “a living emblem of resilience and transformation.”

Under the visionary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State has set a clear path toward urban modernization and sustainable tourism development while preserving the cultural essence that defines its identity.

Mrs. Adebiyi explained that the OYNTCDA is spearheading a forward-looking urban renewal initiative aligned with global best practices in smart city planning, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.

At OYNTCDA, we are not just building cities; we are designing communities and shaping lifestyles that balance the rich texture of our heritage with the sophistication of modern infrastructure,” she stated.

She further noted that the Authority’s vision is anchored on smart infrastructure, green development, and heritage conservation, ensuring that the aesthetic charm of Ibadan’s skyline becomes a major draw for tourism and investment.

In close collaboration with the Oyo State Tourism Board and other strategic partners, OYNTCDA is implementing the Ibadan Smart City Blueprint — an ambitious framework that connects culture, technology, and tourism. The initiative aims to enhance the city’s visual appeal, empower local artisans, stimulate business growth, and create job opportunities, all while preserving the unique character that makes Ibadan remarkable.

“The Brown Roof City is rising again — not by erasing its past, but by building upon it,” Mrs. Adebiyi declared.

She concluded by urging residents, investors, and development partners to support the state government’s vision of transforming Ibadan into a global tourism destination and a model for sustainable urban development in Nigeria and beyond.

“Ibadan will remain a beacon of Yoruba pride, a hub of commerce and creativity, and a city where history and progress walk hand in hand,” she affirmed.
