BREAKING: Jonathan’s Former VP, Namadi Sambo, Dumps PDP for APC in Major Political Shift
Former Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in what is seen as a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sambo, who served under President Goodluck Jonathan between 2010 and 2015, reportedly completed the switch through the APC’s Kaduna State chapter. His defection was confirmed on Wednesday by APC member Imran Muhammad via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Though Sambo has not released a public statement, sources close to the former VP suggest the move had been in the works for some time. Political analysts say his decision could shake up existing power blocs in Kaduna State and beyond.
The former VP’s defection marks another high-profile loss for the PDP and continues the trend of prominent figures leaving the party. Just two weeks ago, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno and nearly all key PDP stakeholders in the state also joined the APC.
Earlier in April, Egalitarian Voice reported a similar defection wave in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and virtually all PDP members in the state switched allegiance to the APC.
Namadi Sambo’s move underscores the shifting tides in Nigeria’s political landscape, with the APC consolidating strength as political actors begin to reposition ahead of 2027.
