The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed rumors claiming that he plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Atiku’s team rejected the unfounded claims, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the PDP. “We have observed that certain media outlets are spreading unverified reports suggesting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is abandoning the PDP,” the statement read.

The statement further clarified that reports of Atiku’s alleged defection are baseless and untrue. “We wish to emphasize that these rumors of Atiku leaving for another party are entirely false and have no logical basis.”

The media office highlighted Atiku’s consistent advocacy for a coalition of opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. His objective, the statement explained, is to unite opposition forces, not to desert his own party.

“Atiku Abubakar has repeatedly called for a coalition of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election to defeat the incompetent APC and offer Nigerians a new hope,” the statement said. “Atiku is committed to forming a strong coalition that includes the PDP.”

Rejecting the speculations about his political future, the statement reaffirmed that Atiku is not leaving the PDP but is focused on building a broader opposition alliance.

It is therefore unfounded and misleading to claim that the Waziri is abandoning the PDP,” the statement continued. “Such claims contradict the goal of the grand coalition that Atiku is spearheading with other key political leaders to bring about a change in Nigeria.”

The media office concluded by stating, “Atiku remains a loyal and principal member of the PDP, the main opposition party. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is designed to mislead Nigerians about the ongoing efforts to form a formidable coalition to rescue Nigeria from the grip of the APC.”
