As I gaze into the eyes of Nigeria’s future generations, I’m reminded of their immense potential. Yet, I’m struck by the harsh reality that threatens to stifle their growth. I recall a 12-year-old girl forced to drop out of school and into marriage, her dreams brutally cut short.
This is the fate of thousands of Nigerian children, denied the fundamental human right to education and self-determination.
What kind of society prioritizes marriage over education, silencing children’s voices and denying them their full potential? As Convener of the Egalitarian Team in Oyo State, I’m compelled to speak out against this injustice. We need policies that protect children’s rights, not sacrifice their future for tradition.
I also reject the government’s 18-year age limit for Senior Certificate Examination, which restricts access to education and perpetuates poverty.

“I urge the government to reverse this policy and align with global standards that prioritize education and children’s rights,” I said.
“Nigeria can do better. We must do better. Our children deserve to succeed, reach their full potential, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by Nigeria, emphasizes education’s importance in a child’s development. I call on the government to take immediate action, ensuring every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
Let’s create a Nigeria where education is compulsory, and every child can shine. Let’s break the cycle of poverty and inequality that has held us back for too long. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter future for all Nigerian children.
