In a major political milestone ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent humanitarian and politician, Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (fondly known as BASA), has been officially elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the Oyo South Senatorial District.

The high-stakes PDP primary election, which took place at Moore Plantation in Apata, Ibadan, concluded with overwhelming support for BASA from party delegates, cementing her position as a formidable contender for the red chamber.
To ensure absolute transparency and compliance with electoral guidelines, the exercise was fully monitored and witnessed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The presence of the electoral umpire has effectively validated the process, removing any ambiguity or doubt regarding the legal status and legitimacy of the primary outcome.
The primary ground was charged with immense energy, drawing a massive crowd of party faithfuls, grassroots mobilizers, and top-tier political heavyweights. Among the distinguished dignitaries present to witness the historic moment were, Prof. Akinosun, State Chairman of the PDP, Oyo State Chapter; Barrister Hazeem Gbolarunmi, a prominent PDP chieftain and former Deputy Governor of Oyo State;distinguished party leaders and delegates traveling directly from the PDP National Headquarters.
Reacting to her victory, an emotional and elated BASA expressed her profound gratitude to the entire PDP structure, with special appreciation to the executives, delegates, and members across the nine local governments making up the Oyo South Senatorial District.
> “This victory is not mine alone; it is a collective victory for everyone who believes in progressive representation and renewed hope for Oyo South,” BASA stated. “I am deeply humbled by this incredible show of love and trust. I pledge never to disappoint the PDP family or the good people of this district when given the mandate at the general elections.”
Looking ahead to the main election cycle, BASA urged party members not to rest on their oars. She charged supporters to immediately hit the ground running with an aggressive, door-to-door campaign strategy across every ward and community.
Furthermore, she strongly enjoined all eligible constituents—especially youth and women—to take full advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by INEC, stressing that securing a voter’s card is the most powerful tool to ensure victory for the party in 2027.

With her official emergence, the Oyo State PDP stands united and positioned to secure a resounding victory in Oyo South, banking on BASA’s widespread grassroots appeal, track record of public service, and the unwavering momentum of the party.
