According to Mr Adedayo Ogungbade, the owner of a children’s store in Aleshiloye, Ibadan, how a couple used a bogus debit alert to cart away N479,600 worth of goods from her store.
Ogungbade explained that the couple carried out the fraud on Tuesday afternoon.
“On the 22nd of November, at about 2:30 pm, a couple came into my store to buy baby things. After the shopping, their bill cost a total of N479,600. We handed the couple a bill and they said that they wanted to do a money transfer for the payment,” Ogungbade told Egalitarian Voice on Saturday.
“The wife told us that she had done it and she showed a debit alert. They left before we realised that they were fraudsters. The debit alert was apparently fake.”
The store wrote a receipt for the couple and bade them goodbye.
Ogungbade told Egalitarian Voice that the thieving couple were caught on the CCTV camera of her store.
Egalitarian Voice learnt that the couple went to the store with a child, though only the female partner’s face is visible in the CCTV footage obtained from the store.
While the man wore a white skull cap, his partner wore a brown cap, said Ogungbade. No one has identified the couple yet.
