‘We will Be Restored’, Fubara Assured Rivers State People

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured Rivers people that the suspension of the elected state government he leads will eventually be lifted thanks to the valued intervention of President Bola Tinubu and other well meaning Nigerians and leaders.

Gov. Fubara who was addressing Rivers stakeholders on Thursday, May 29, 2025 in Port Harcourt under the Simplified Movement on the midterm scorecard expressed gratitude to the massive support from the people and the remarkable milestones he has achieved through the turbulence.

He told the people, “I assure you by the special grace of God that we will come back to our offices not just the Executive arm, but also the legislative arm.

“We also believe that relationship we had then where we all worked, campaigned and ate together will still be restored. There is no problem that is not solvable, what is important is your ability to have a forgiving spirit.

According to him, “What is our situation now? A critical one, in the sense that the court has ruled and we just have one way forward. Our options are nothing else but peace because it is the ultimate way to go.

He noted that at the moment fighting and argument will not solve the problems, but embracing peace and reconciliation to enable the State move forward, expressing his gratitude to his supporters standing by him and their appreciating the decision he took to toe the path of peace and reconciliation to get out of the situation.

He informed the audience that “We are already in the peace process. We thank the President for the process. I don’t know where you get your information, but mine is authentic and I don’t know who directs you, but my own directive should be followed.

Gov. Fubara emphasised that “Mr President is the one who saved the situation” stressing that “without him, if you like protest, it won’t have solved the problem.” He therefore admonished the people to join him to thank the President for his intervention which gave him and his deputy the opportunity to remain in office.

He said, “After the intervention there were a few persons who felt that there should be more interventions so that the issues will be completely resolved. And a good number of personalities in this country have always spoken for us and intervened.”

Speaking further, Gov. Fubara pointed out that “All these are for us to resolve these issues, because at the end of the day it is for the good of Rivers people.

“So whichever way it is today, there is every need for us to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. At the end of the day no matter how it is, no matter how bad we might feel what is important is the State moving forward.”

To the Simplified Movement, he said, “I on behalf of my family thank everyone and say honestly, you have been wonderful with your support. This support is one I never solicited either through letter or text messages.

On his midterm scorecard, the Governor said, “Our journey though very turbulent, we have a lot of things with the opportunity Rivers people gave to us which we have utilized to place Rivers State at the forefront in Nigeria, because we felt that the interest of Rivers State is above our personal interest.

The governor said, “Somehow not the way you plan that it comes out at the end. We got into the stormy water we navigated to where we could and I can easily say that we did well. This second year anniversary, if not for the crisis we would have had a lot of other programmes and things we worked on to showcase but it pleases the God Almighty that the situation is what it is.”
