Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has Reject Coalition for 2027 Elections, Stand Firm on Independence.

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) has firmly ruled out any possibility of merging with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the PDP will not join any coalition or political group.
Chairman of the forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, made this declaration after a two-day meeting in Ibadan, where he was joined by several fellow governors, including Peter Mbah (Enugu), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa). Governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) were represented by their deputies.
In a seven-paragraph communique issued at the conclusion of the meeting, Governor Mohammed addressed rumors regarding a potential merger to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He clarified: “Despite widespread speculation about possible mergers with other parties, groups, or associations, the Forum has resolved that the PDP will not participate in any coalition or merger.”
However, Mohammed emphasized that the PDP remains open to welcoming any party, individual, or group interested in joining forces to contest the elections and promote good governance in 2027. “The PDP, as the leading opposition party, is willing to collaborate with those committed to changing the leadership for the better,” he added.
The communique also touched on other matters. The forum reaffirmed its position on the party’s National Secretary issue, reiterating its previous stance in Asaba, but recommended that the Deputy Secretary serve as the Acting National Secretary until a substantive one is nominated from the South East Zone. This is to be addressed at the next meeting.
Additionally, the governors expressed strong opposition to any attempts to undermine constitutional democracy, reiterating their commitment to appealing to the Supreme Court for clarity on the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
On the security situation, the forum condemned the escalating crises in states such as Borno, Katsina, and Edo, calling for a comprehensive review of national security strategies. The governors stressed the need for a bottom-up approach to effectively combat security challenges.
The PDP governors also reaffirmed their solidarity with suspended Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, voicing their unwavering support for him amid the challenges faced by the state.
