On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu posthumously awarded National Honours to four “Ogoni heroes.”
The ceremony took place at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, during which President Tinubu received the Ogoni Consultations report from the Dialogue Committee, led by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and comprising key stakeholders from Ogoniland.
The honorees include:
- Chief Edward Kobani (CON)
- Chief Albert Badey (CON)
- Chief Samuel Orage (CON)
- Chief Theophilus Orage (CON)
All four leaders were conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honour.

President Tinubu urged the Ogoni people to embrace unity and reconciliation after decades of division, stating, “May their memories continue to inspire unity, courage, and purpose among us. I urge the Ogoni people across classes, communities, and generations to close ranks, leave this dark chapter behind, and move forward as a united community with one voice.”

In a further move to demonstrate inclusiveness, President Tinubu recently signed the law establishing the Federal University of Environment in Ogoniland, underscoring his administration’s dedication to fostering peace and economic growth in Rivers State.
