Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, cast their votes on Saturday during the ongoing local government elections across the state.
The couple arrived at their Ward E3, Polling Unit 006, located at St. Stephen’s Primary School, Lagos Island, at approximately 11:06 a.m. and completed the voting process by 11:10 a.m.
Speaking shortly after voting, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for what he described as a commendable job in organizing the elections, despite some minor logistical challenges observed in parts of the state.
“I’ve received positive feedback from across the state. While there were some minor issues here and there, LASIEC has done a good job overall,” he stated.

However, the governor acknowledged the low voter turnout, a trend that has become a growing concern in recent elections. At his own polling unit, only fewer than 50 out of 634 registered voters had turned up to vote as of the time he cast his ballot.
This observation mirrors widespread voter apathy reported in various parts of the state, with several polling units witnessing sparse attendance and minimal queues.
Sanwo-Olu further noted that voting materials arrived early in many polling units, which helped ensure a smooth start to the process. Nonetheless, he admitted that some areas experienced slight delays due to logistical coordination.
> “Generally, reports reaching us suggest that materials arrived on time in most places, though a few locations had some late starts. Our monitoring teams are on ground and are working with LASIEC to resolve issues swiftly,” he added.
The local government election, which is being conducted across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos, is crucial for grassroots governance and service delivery.
