SUG President Gunned Down at Father’s Burial

The brutal killing of Samuel Sampson Udo, a 26-year-old former student leader at Peace Institute of Management and Technology in Akwa Ibom State, has sent shockwaves through his community. Udo was gunned down during the funeral rites of his father, a respected community leader in Cross River State. The tragedy and the loss of the promising young life have deeply affected family, friends, and well-wishers.

The gathering honoring the deceased ended abruptly when gunfire erupted during a clash between rival cult groups. A resident, Utum Ofem Ubi, recounted how victim Samuel Udo was struck as he ran for cover, and the atmosphere instantly shifted from laughter and song to screams and chaos as attendees fled into their homes, locking their doors.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on October 31, 2025, during a “show of strength” between members of rival cult gangs. The clash resulted in the death of Samuel Udo and left 29-year-old Miss Choice Ikenger and a few others critically injured; Ikenger reportedly still has bullets lodged in her body.
For his mother and siblings, the sight of his body riddled with bullets is a memory they never wished to have had. Udo’s sister, Miss Affiong Sampson, described the incident as a brutal act of violence, saying, “They shot him with bullets as if he was an animal. His body is still in the mortuary, the entire family had remained in grief since he was killed.”
