REVEALED: Wike Set to Dump PDP for Another Party Ahead of 2027 Elections

Strong indications have emerged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, may be preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, has remained one of the most influential political figures in Nigeria since his appointment as FCT Minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023. His appointment came shortly after his open support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, a move that sparked widespread controversy within the PDP, where he was then a prominent leader.
Despite retaining his PDP membership, Wike has consistently aligned himself with the APC-led federal government, deepening speculations about his long-anticipated defection.
Fresh information gathered by POLITICS NIGERIA suggests that Wike’s planned move to the APC may not be immediate. According to sources, the defection is expected to take place closer to the 2027 elections and could trigger a major political realignment, particularly in Rivers State and other strategic parts of the country.

Political observers believe that Wike’s eventual defection could significantly alter the balance of power within both the PDP and APC, given his strong grassroots influence, political structure, and loyal supporters across the South-South region.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Wike nor the leadership of the PDP or APC has officially confirmed the development.
