….Citing FG’s Neglect of Signed Agreements
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to resume its total and indefinite comprehensive strike from January 12, 2026, citing the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreed welfare demands.
The decision was taken at an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held on January 2 and disclosed in a statement signed by NARD President, Dr Mohammed Suleiman.
The strike, tagged TICS 2.0 and themed “No Implementation, No Going Back,” is scheduled to commence at exactly 12:00 a.m. on January 12.
Suleiman said the industrial action would only be suspended after the full implementation of the association’s demands. He added that all 91 centre presidents nationwide had been directed to hold congress meetings and brief the media within seven days to amplify the association’s position.
NARD also announced a series of protests to accompany the strike, including centre-based protests from January 12 to 16, followed by regional demonstrations and a national protest organised by the National Officers Committee.
Key demands include the reinstatement of the “FTH Lokoja five,” payment of promotion and salary arrears, full implementation of the professional allowance table with arrears captured in the 2026 budget, and the reintroduction of the specialist allowance.
Others are clarification on entry-level and skipping issues, resolution of house officers’ salary delays, recategorisation of membership certificates, regulation of work hours, and the resumption of the collective bargaining agreement process.

The association recalled that it suspended a 29-day strike on November 29, 2025, after the government pledged to act within four weeks, a deadline NARD said elapsed without progress.
As of press time, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare had not responded.
