PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PTA, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIRLS’ COLLEGE (FGGC) OYO
RE:FGGC Oyo Bullying Incident: Setting the Record Straight as Exaggerated Reporting Overshadows Truth in Media Coverage”

The Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Oyo in Oyo State wishes to address the misleading reports circulating on certain radio stations regarding an alleged bullying incident in the school. After a thorough investigation by various stakeholders, including representatives of the 1985 set, we categorically exonerate the school’s management and staff from any negligence or wrongdoing.
From the findings of the investigation conducted, we discovered the following:
1. The School Took Immediate and Decisive Action upon receiving reports of the incident. The school authority promptly investigated the incident, provided medical attention and counselling to the affected students, and suspended the students involved in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s directives.
2.The School followed Due Process in handling the issue– Parents of the affected students were informed as well as the PTA executive members to ensure transparency and order.
3. No Severe Injuries Were Found – While there were claims of bullying; bruises, scratches and minor scrapes were found on the students examined. This contradicts exaggerated reports suggesting severe physical harm.

4. Unbalanced Media Reports Have Misrepresented the Facts – A reporter from Lagelu FM Ṣeun Aribikola, who had broadcasted the incident claim that it was a case of Cultism. It is very unfortunate that a journalist could deliberately misinform his audience. Instead of seeking clarifications from the School Management, he hastily aired the program on Lagelu FM and Splash FM without conducting thorough investigation. It is surprising how he concluded that the incident was a case of Cultism and not bullying.

The PTA stands firmly with the school’s management and commends her proactive handling of the situation. We urge the public, especially parents, to seek information from credible sources and avoid being swayed by sensationalized reports from online influencers who became journalists overnight.
Furthermore, we encourage the school to continue enforcing discipline while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. We also call on media practitioners to uphold professionalism by verifying facts before publication.
FGGC Oyo remains a beacon of excellence, and we assure all stakeholders that the management remains committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
