The Police Service Commission has described as ill-advised the planned protest by retired police officers across the country over pension-related concerns already receiving attention from relevant government agencies.
A statement by the commission notes that while the grievances of the retirees may be valid, the choice of protest at a time when there is widespread acknowledgment of their plight is diversionary and in poor taste.
Chairman of the Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, has consistently condemned the discriminatory pension system affecting certain categories of retired officers and continues to advocate for a unified and equitable police pension scheme. He has made several interventions to address these issues and remains a firm voice for pension reform in the police force.
The Commission urges the affected retirees to embrace dialogue and sustained engagement rather than confrontation, stressing that relevant authorities are actively working to resolve the disparities. The commission says it maintains its unwavering commitment to improved welfare for all police officers and appeals to the organizers of the protest to reconsider their approach in the interest of national stability and progress.
